German mezzo-soprano Michelle Neupert touches her audience with her warm vocal timbre, profound creative power and honest expression.​

In addition to several scholarships, she was awarded a special prize at the 1st Josephine Lang Competition for Song Duos in 2023 and has been a finalist of the 3rd International Helmut Deutsch Lied Competition 2021 as well as the 5th cantateBach International Singing Competition 2019.

Michelle performs throughout Germany as a soloist in her field and has established herself with roles such as the alto parts in Bach's St Matthew Passion, Mass in B minor, Christmas Oratorio, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle and Stabat Mater. She has performed with the Gewandhaus Orchestra under Thomaskantor Andreas Reize and works regularly with the baroque ensembles L'Arco, la festa musicale, Ensemble Schirokko and Concerto Ispirato. In staged productions, she has taken on various roles, such as the Third Lady in Mozart's "The Magic Flute", Larina in Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin", the Palm Reader in Bohuslav Martinů's "Juliette", and Ruggiero in a concert version of Handel's "Alcina".

As a Lied interpreter, she regularly develops new art song programmes in collaboration with the pianist Hikaru Kanki and has performed at festivals such as the Tübingen Music Festival, the Niedersächsische Musiktage, the Klangbrücken Festival Hanover and at the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn in Vienna.

BIOGRAPHY

In addition to her solo work, ensemble singing enriches Michelle‘s artistic creativity. Through her engagements in internationally renowned ensembles such as the JSB - Junges Stuttgarter Bachensemble (Hans-Christoph Rademann), the MDR-Rundfunkchor, the NDR Vocal Ensemble (Philipp Ahmann) and the Rundfunkchor Berlin (Jakub Hrůša, Benjamin Goodson), she has developed outstanding ensemble skills. Her vocal flexibility and stylistic sensitivity make her a sought-after guest in radio and CD productions. Various concerts have taken her to the Gewandhaus in Leipzig (Andris Nelsons), the Kulturpalast in Dresden and the Stadtcasino Basel (Marek Janowski), the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg (Ingo Metzmacher), the Berlin Philharmonie (Alan Gilbert) and to renowned festivals such as the Lucerne Festival (Andrés Orozco-Estrada) and the Rheingau Music Festival (Alain Altinoglu).

Born in Hanover, Michelle completed her master’s degree in opera singing at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media with Gudrun Pelker, in the Lied class with Jan Philip Schulze and at the Institute for Early Music with Bernward Lohr (Musica Alta Ripa) and Ralf Popken. She gained significant impulses in masterclasses with Vesselina Kasarova, Thomas Quasthoff, Claudia Barainsky and Peter Berne.

Michelle is currently living with her family in Leipzig.
